Seoul, Feb 19 (NationPress) Kia, BMW Korea, and three additional automakers are set to voluntarily recall over 76,000 vehicles to address issues with faulty parts, as reported by the transport ministry on Wednesday.

The five manufacturers, which include Renault Korea Motors Co., Tesla Korea, and Jaguar Land Rover Korea, are recalling a total of 76,382 units across 37 different models, according to a statement from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport.

The recalls are attributed to various issues, including a defective airbag system in Kia's Niro electric vehicle (EV), problems with the cooling pump wire connector in BMW's 528i sedan, and software malfunctions in Renault's Arkana SUV, as detailed by the ministry and reported by Yonhap news agency.

Tesla will also be recalling vehicles to address a faulty electric power assisted steering (EPAS) system in the Model Y SUV.

Vehicle owners can verify if their cars are impacted by visiting the government's official site at www.car.go.kr or by calling 080-357-2500, as per the ministry's announcement.

Last month, Hyundai Motor, Kia, and two other companies disclosed plans to voluntarily recall more than 340,000 vehicles due to similar component faults.

The four manufacturers, which included Mercedes-Benz Korea and Tesla Korea, collectively recalled 343,250 units spanning 11 different models, according to the ministry.

Hyundai Motor recalled 141,125 units of two models, including the Porter II Electric, due to a design flaw in the battery sensor. Furthermore, 19,830 units of the Nexo were recalled because of a defect in the emergency light switch.

Kia's Sorento Hybrid and another model, totaling 89,598 units, were recalled for software-related errors.

The number of vehicles voluntarily recalled by automakers in South Korea reached a record high last year, with approximately 80 percent of these recalls attributed to the domestic giant Hyundai Motor Group.

In total, 5.12 million units across 1,684 different models were recalled due to defects, according to the Korea Road Traffic Authority. Hyundai Motor Co. and Kia Corp. together accounted for 4.07 million units, which is 79.2 percent of the overall figure.
