New Delhi, March 6 (NationPress) The Indian firm CDIL Semiconductors and Infineon Technologies Asia Pacific, a worldwide leader in power systems and IoT semiconductor technology, have entered into a memorandum of understanding aimed at exploring strategic collaborations within India’s rapidly expanding chip sector.
This partnership aligns with the government’s agenda of fostering semiconductor self-reliance, contributing to the goal of enhancing local production and minimizing import reliance.
Under this agreement, Infineon will provide high-performance bare die wafers to CDIL, which will then package these into discrete and module semiconductor products designed specifically for Indian consumers, thereby bolstering India’s domestic capabilities and its standing in the global supply chain.
“This collaboration underscores India’s potential and our proficiency in manufacturing power semiconductors. By merging Infineon’s advanced wafer technology with CDIL’s sophisticated OSAT capabilities, we are establishing new standards in innovation and localization,” remarked Pankaj Gulati, President of CDIL.
This partnership aims to go beyond mere growth; it is poised to ignite innovation, expedite the ‘Make in India’ initiative, and establish India as a center for semiconductor excellence.
“Through this collaboration, we will be delivering state-of-the-art power semiconductor products and solutions tailored to meet the increasing demands in e-mobility, renewable energy, and energy-efficient appliances in India,” stated Richard Kuncic, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Power Systems at Infineon Technologies.
Infineon and CDIL are set to address critical semiconductor requirements across multiple sectors, including automotive and mobility, power semiconductors, renewable energy, and both industrial and consumer applications, as indicated in their announcement.
This collaboration also lays the groundwork for future innovations and deeper involvement in advanced semiconductor technologies, catering to India's changing requirements in next-generation electronics.
Since 1964, CDIL has been producing high-reliability semiconductor devices for esteemed organizations such as ISRO, Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre, HAL, and BEL.
India has made notable strides in semiconductor production, with five units currently under construction. The first ‘Made in India’ chip is anticipated to launch by 2025.
