New Delhi, April 18 (NationPress) The electronics manufacturing sector has experienced a remarkable growth of five times in the past decade, exceeding Rs 11 lakh crore while the entire ecosystem has generated 25 lakh jobs, stated Union Minister for Railways and Electronics and IT, Ashwini Vaishnaw, on Friday.
In the last ten years, electronics exports have seen a sixfold increase, climbing to over Rs 3.25 lakh crore, the minister noted during the inauguration of VVDN Technologies' SMT (Surface Mount Technology) Line in Manesar, Haryana.
This new line will allow VVDN to produce large and intricate products like AI servers, networking equipment, and motherboards — contributing to a reduction in import reliance and enhancing India's supply chain resilience.
According to the minister, Indian products enjoy a competitive edge in the global market due to their reliability and adherence to IP rights, gaining recognition worldwide. He highlighted that the recently approved Rs 22,919 crore electronics components PLI is set to further bolster the electronics manufacturing ecosystem.
The inauguration event signifies a significant achievement for the Design and Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives, emphasizing the strengthening of India's domestic capabilities in electronics product engineering and high-volume manufacturing.
The newly launched SMT Line is VVDN’s largest, accommodating PCB sizes of up to 850mm x 560mm, with a high-speed capacity of 250,000 CPH (components per hour).
Additionally, the Mechanical Innovation Park, covering 1,50,000 sq. ft., will contain mold and tool-making facilities, including CNC, EDM, and Wire Cut machines, alongside modern injection molding equipment — creating a fully integrated mechanical design-to-manufacturing ecosystem.
With the establishment of these new facilities, VVDN plans to recruit over 3,000 skilled professionals, aligning with the government’s vision for job creation and advanced technical training.
During his visit, the minister also toured VVDN’s R&D Labs – including the Server R&D Lab, 5G R&D Lab, and Video Image Tuning Lab. He also observed India’s AI server ‘Adipoli’ at VVDN Technologies.
Vaishnaw mentioned on Thursday that smartphones have become India’s top export category in the first ten months of FY25, highlighting a significant achievement under the government’s PLI initiative.
