Bengaluru, July 23 (NationPress) Google has reported an impressive Rs 4 lakh crore in app revenue generated in India, while also playing a significant role in the creation of developer jobs within the nation in 2024, as stated by the tech giant on Wednesday.
Referring to insights from Public First, an economics, policy, and opinion research consultancy, Google praised Indian developers and startups for their contributions to AI development utilizing Google technologies.
"According to independent evaluations, the Google Play and Android ecosystem has produced Rs 4 lakh crore in revenue for app publishers and the broader economy in India in 2024," noted Google in a blog post.
This ecosystem has facilitated the generation of 35 lakh direct, indirect, and spillover jobs across the country, as reported by the tech giant.
"The Indian ecosystem features the second highest number of active developers on Google Play globally, contributing over 10 lakh developer jobs in 2024," the statement continued.
The ecosystem has been pivotal in influencing the impact and inclusivity of India's digital economy.
"Indian developers are literally crafting the next chapter of India's success narrative, utilizing AI capabilities to develop real-world applications that reach millions of businesses and individuals across India and beyond," stated Dr. Manish Gupta, Senior Director for India and APAC at Google DeepMind.

To further bolster the Indian developer and startup ecosystem, Google announced at the Google I/O Connect India 2025 event in Bengaluru, its advanced thinking model Gemini 2.5 Flash, new Agentic AI tools in Firebase Studio, and a fresh training program with Unity, a leading gaming engine platform.
Collaborations with three India AI Mission startups—Sarvam, Soket AI, and Gnani—were also highlighted, focusing on innovative solutions for developing the country’s Make-in-India AI models.
The tech giant also unveiled initiatives to enhance the accessibility of accurate information in Google Maps, encompassing over 250 million locations globally, empowering developers to create improved generative AI features.
