Ahmedabad, July 1 (NationPress) Gujarat has experienced a remarkable increase in its Goods and Services Tax (GST) revenue for June 2025, amassing Rs 6,150 crore, which reflects an 11 per cent growth compared to Rs 5,562 crore collected in June 2024.

This growth exceeds the national average, which was reported at six per cent, as per an official announcement from the state government released on Tuesday.

In addition to GST, the state generated Rs 2,833 crore through Value Added Tax (VAT), Rs 876 crore from electricity charges, and Rs 21 crore via business tax, culminating in a total tax revenue of Rs 9,880 crore for June 2025.

The month also saw a significant increase in enforcement-related income.

The mobile squad's investigative efforts yielded Rs 32.34 crore, a remarkable 50.64 per cent increase from Rs 21.46 crore collected in the same month last year.

Officials have highlighted that this marks the highest monthly recovery since the initiation of GST in 2017.

In commemoration of GST Day, the State Tax Department introduced its new official logo.

Designed in shades of blue and gold, the logo symbolizes transparency and communication, as well as taxation and development.

The unveiling was conducted by Gujarat's Finance Minister Kanu Desai, reinforcing the department's dedication to modernizing its identity and enhancing taxpayer engagement.

Since the GST's implementation in July 2017, Gujarat has consistently ranked among the leading states in terms of GST revenue collection.

Renowned for its industrial base, manufacturing sector, and a significant number of MSMEs, Gujarat plays a crucial role in contributing to India's GST pool.

The state's growth in GST revenue is also credited to its high compliance rate among small and medium enterprises, as many have voluntarily transitioned into the formal tax system due to simplified filing processes and access to credit through the Input Tax Credit framework.

Furthermore, the state's success with e-way bill adoption, proactive resolution of technical issues, and ongoing taxpayer awareness initiatives have significantly enhanced its collection efficiency.

Point of View

I see Gujarat's recent GST revenue growth as a testament to the state's effective tax strategies and compliance initiatives. This surge not only reflects the economic vitality of the region but also underscores the importance of transparency and modernization in tax collection. As Gujarat continues to lead in this area, it sets a precedent for other states to follow.
