New Delhi, March 13 (NationPress) The Indian automobile sector has achieved unprecedented passenger vehicle sales, encompassing cars and SUVs, in February this year, alongside notable growth in the three-wheeler category, as per data released by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) on Thursday.
However, the statistics indicate a downturn in two-wheeler sales for February, particularly in the motorcycle segment, while the scooter segment has remained relatively stable.
Passenger vehicle sales reached 3,77,689 units in February this year, marking a 1.9 percent increase compared to 3,70,786 units in February 2024. This represents the highest sales figure ever recorded for February.
The data excludes sales figures from luxury car manufacturers like BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Jaguar Land Rover, and Volvo Auto, according to SIAM.
SIAM Director General Rajesh Menon stated, "The passenger vehicle segment has shown resilience, achieving its highest February sales in 2025, totaling 3.78 lakh units."
For the first eleven months of the current financial year, passenger vehicle sales have reached an impressive 6,92,311 units, reflecting a 13.6 percent increase from 6,09,505 during the same period in 2023-24.
The three-wheeler segment has shown a 4.7 percent year-on-year growth, with sales hitting 57,788 units, up from 55,175 units in the same month last year. Passenger carriers led the segment with a 6.8 percent increase, while goods carriers saw a 5.9 percent rise.
Conversely, the two-wheeler segment experienced a significant decline, with sales dropping 9 percent to 13,84,605 units. Motorcycles faced a 13.1 percent drop, scooters had a slight 0.5 percent decrease, and mopeds endured the steepest decline at 18.2 percent.
Despite the downturn in two-wheeler sales, SIAM remains optimistic about recovery in March, the final month of the current financial year.
“The upcoming festivities of Holi and Ugadi in March are expected to sustain demand, potentially leading to a favorable close for FY 2024-25,” Menon noted.
For the period of April-February in the current financial year, two-wheeler sales now stand at 38.3 lakh, reflecting a robust 22.4 percent increase compared to the same timeframe in 2023-24.
