New Delhi, Sep 20 (NationPress) India has positioned itself as a significant player in the global seafood export market, currently catering to 132 countries. The country has set an ambitious goal to increase its seafood exports to $15 billion by the year 2030, according to a report released on Saturday.
In the fiscal year 2024-25, India exported 1,698,170 tonnes of seafood valued at ₹62,408.45 crore (approximately $7.45 billion). This is a slight decrease from the 1,781,602 tonnes exported in 2023-24, worth ₹60,523.89 crore (around $7.38 billion). These figures illustrate the sector's remarkable resilience amid fluctuations in global trade.
The fisheries industry is vital, supporting the livelihoods of over 30 million fishers and fish farmers, highlighting its essential role in the nation's economy. A report by the Seafood Exporters Association of India (SEAI) underscores this ahead of the upcoming India International Seafood Show 2025.
The 24th India International Seafood Show, recognized as Asia’s foremost seafood trade fair, is scheduled to take place from September 25 to 28 at Bharat Mandapam.
This year's event will coincide with World Food India 2025, a flagship initiative by the Government of India that celebrates the nation’s culinary heritage while promoting collaborations across the food value chain.
“The IISS showcases the remarkable growth of India’s seafood export sector. As we celebrate our golden jubilee, this event aims to solidify our global standing and explore new markets,” stated SEAI President, Pawan Kumar.
SEAI Secretary-General, K.N. Raghavan, emphasized, “Our motto, ‘Sustainably Harvested, Humanely Sourced,’ reflects our unwavering commitment to ethical sourcing and responsible aquaculture practices.”
The IISS-2025 will serve as a platform to tackle challenges related to skill development, sustainability, and innovation.
Featuring over 260 stalls, technical sessions, and roundtables, the event will attract participants from more than 15 countries, including significant markets like the United States, European Union, Vietnam, UAE, Germany, Belgium, Japan, China, and others, as reported by SEAI.
