In comparison, the services sector's FTCs accounted for 16.6 percent during the financial years 2023-2025 (FY23-25), as reported by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Tuesday.
Countries such as Japan, the United States, and Germany emerged as the leading contributors to technical collaborations in Indian entities.
Approximately 61 percent of these collaborations involved the transfer of technology know-how from foreign partners, while 8 percent were focused on licensing trademarks or brand names, as indicated by the RBI.
Moreover, royalty payments, encompassing both royalties and lump-sum technical fees, served as the mode of payment for nearly two-thirds of the FTCs.
Out of 601 reported FTC agreements, 187 included export restriction clauses, and 188 agreements provided exclusive rights on transferred assets, according to the central bank.
The manufacturing sector recorded the highest production value share among FTC companies, with the motor vehicles industry holding the largest segment.
In the fiscal year 2024-25, the exports from FTC-reporting entities surged at a rate of 20.3 percent, outpacing imports, which grew by 4.6 percent. The share of these exports and imports in total production value was 17.7 percent and 18.6 percent, respectively.
This data is derived from the fifteenth round of the biennial survey on foreign collaboration in Indian industry (FCS) that spans the financial years 2023-24 and 2024-25.
Conducted during this survey round, 601 FTC agreements were reported by 255 Indian entities, with 163 of these having participated in the previous survey round, as per RBI's information.
