New Delhi, Dec 8 (NationPress) More than 50 lakh Central government employees and approximately 69 lakh pensioners are poised to benefit from the introduction of the 8th Central Pay Commission (CPC), as disclosed in a statement to Parliament on Monday. The central government currently employs 50.14 lakh individuals, while there are around 69 lakh pensioners, all of whom will be included in the forthcoming pay revision process, as stated by the Minister of State for Finance, Pankaj Chaudhary, in a written response during Lok Sabha proceedings regarding the implementation schedule of the 8th CPC, the terms of reference (ToR), and financial allocations for the 2026–27 Budget.

Chaudhary sought to alleviate concerns, reiterating that the government would determine the implementation date of the 8th CPC, and the Commission is expected to provide its recommendations within 18 months from its establishment date.

Furthermore, he assured that the government would allocate the necessary funds following the approval of the recommendations. 'The government will ensure appropriate financial provisions for executing the accepted recommendations of the 8th CPC. It will also establish methodologies and procedures for formulating these recommendations,' Chaudhary emphasized.

The Finance Ministry had previously clarified that the 8th CPC would review and propose adjustments concerning pay, allowances, pensions, and other service conditions.

This follows earlier clarifications made in response to unstarred questions posed in the Rajya Sabha by members Javed Ali Khan and Ramji Lal Suman, inquiring if the government intended to modify pensions or merge the existing Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR) with basic pay for immediate financial relief to employees and retirees.

Chaudhary had previously mentioned that all such issues are encompassed within the mandate of the newly formed 8th CPC, officially established through a government resolution on November 3, along with comprehensive Terms of Reference.
