New Delhi, Sep 1 (NationPress) In a significant boost for the workforce, Indian Railways and State Bank of India (SBI) formalized a pivotal Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Monday, aimed at enhancing the insurance benefits for its employees. This agreement took place in the presence of key figures including Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Railway Board Chairman Satish Kumar, and SBI Chairman C.S. Setty.
This new insurance initiative marks a major advancement in employee welfare. As per the MoU, Railway employees holding salary accounts with SBI will now benefit from significantly increased insurance coverage.
A standout feature of this initiative is the air accident insurance (death) coverage amounting to Rs 1.6 crore. Additionally, there is an extra coverage of up to Rs 1 crore available through their RuPay Debit Card.
Moreover, in the unfortunate event of an accidental death, employees will now receive insurance benefits of up to Rs 1 crore, a substantial increase from the previous limits of Rs 1.20 lakh for Group A, Rs 60,000 for Group B, and Rs 30,000 for Group C employees under the Central Government Employees Group Insurance Scheme (CGEGIS).
The MoU also introduces a natural death insurance coverage of Rs 10 lakh for all employees with SBI salary accounts, notably provided without any premium payment or medical examination.
Currently, almost 7 lakh Railway employees operate their salary accounts with SBI, indicating a vast number of employees will benefit from this agreement.
This pact further includes complimentary insurance covers such as Rs 1 crore for permanent total disability and up to Rs 80 lakh for permanent partial disability resulting from accidents.
Officials emphasized that this initiative showcases a caring and employee-focused strategy by Indian Railways in collaboration with SBI.
This will be particularly advantageous for frontline railway personnel in Group C, who are essential to maintaining the operation of India’s extensive rail network.
