New Delhi, June 13 (NationPress) The Directorate General of Training (DGT), operating under the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), has collaborated with Shell India to introduce a training initiative aimed at equipping the nation’s youth for careers in Electric Vehicles (EV) and the green energy sectors, as announced by the MSDE on Friday.

The Green Skills and Electric Vehicles (EV) training program is designed to provide students and educators with essential skills to navigate the future of green energy and e-mobility. This initiative aligns with the government’s efforts to promote green energy and the adoption of EVs, supporting its net-zero goals.

“Our partnership with Shell India signifies the government’s commitment to merging skilling with sustainability. The domains of green energy, electric mobility, and the overall climate transition not only serve as environmental necessities but also present a generational opportunity for India to excel through innovation, talent, and enterprise,” stated Jayant Chaudhary, Minister of State (Independent Charge), MSDE and Minister of State for Education.

“This program is a step towards crafting a workforce that is not only ready for jobs but also prepared for climate challenges. We are imparting the skills necessary for young Indians to lead and shape the global green economy,” he further added.

In this collaboration, green skills training will be implemented through a comprehensive multi-tier model across select National Skill Training Institutes (NSTIs) and Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in Delhi-NCR, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka.

The curriculum, developed in partnership with Shell, Edunet Foundation, and DGT, encompasses EV systems, diagnostics, battery technology, digital tools, and safety protocols.

The initial phase includes a 240-hour advanced EV technician course at four NSTIs, a 90-hour job-oriented EV skills course at 12 ITIs with Shell-supported labs, and a 50-hour foundational green skills module at additional ITIs lacking physical labs, according to the MSDE.

This initiative also comprises a Training of Trainers (ToT) for over 250 instructors, co-branded certification by Shell and DGT, and structured placement support to improve industry readiness.

Importantly, the initiative will set up specialized EV skill labs within select ITIs and NSTIs, offering hands-on training and expert-led sessions that adhere to industry standards.

Apart from lab training, the program provides placement assistance and co-branded certifications to successful participants, enhancing their employability in the green energy and EV sectors.

“By collaborating with DGT and Edunet Foundation, we are equipping students with practical, future-oriented skills in green energy and electric mobility. This initiative empowers young individuals to excel in an evolving energy landscape and contribute towards India’s net-zero goals,” stated Mansi Madan Tripathy, Chairperson of Shell Group of Companies in India and Senior Vice President of Shell Lubricants, Asia-Pacific.
