New Delhi, July 25 (NationPress) Rani Kapur, the mother of the late Sunjay Kapur, has sent a letter to the Board of Directors and Shareholders of Sona Comstar, urging them to halt the appointment of any Director(s) within the company or any affiliated Sona Group Company. She also demands an unconditional postponement of the Annual General Meeting (AGM), originally set for Friday (July 25).

In her correspondence, Rani Kapur claims she was pressured into signing documents that are now being misused to seize control of the company and take over the family legacy after the passing of her son.

According to Rani, under the Will of her late husband, Dr. Surinder Kapur, the founder of Sona Comstar and the Sona Group, she is the majority shareholder, making her the sole representative of the family's interests in the company and group.

"I request that this AGM be delayed by at least two weeks to a more convenient date, allowing me to collect all necessary information. I insist on total cooperation from the company, with all details shared with me, so I can compile the facts for the board," Rani Kapur expressed in her letter.

Formerly married to actress Karisma Kapoor, Sunjay Kapur passed away at the age of 53 on June 12 in England due to a heart attack while playing polo.

He served as the non-executive chairperson of Sona Comstar. Just days following his death, Jeffrey Mark Overly was appointed as the new Chairperson on June 23.

Rani also alleges that her son died under mysterious circumstances in the UK, stating that while she was in mourning, she was compelled to sign documents that are now being exploited to take control of the company.

"It is disheartening that during our family's time of mourning, some individuals have seized this moment to try to control and usurp our family legacy," her letter noted.

She has mentioned that access to her accounts has been denied within less than a month after her son’s passing.

In her letter, sent a day before the AGM, she stated: "I have learned from well-wishers that an AGM is scheduled for tomorrow, where one agenda item includes passing a resolution to appoint specific Director(s) as representatives of the Kapur family in the Company."

Rani also claims that certain individuals are falsely presenting themselves as the largest shareholders of the company, claiming to represent the family's interests.

"For clarity, I have not given any consent or made official nominations for any individuals to join the Board of the Company or any other Sona Group Company following my son’s death. I have not authorized anyone to represent me in any capacity regarding the Company or any other Sona Group Company," her letter stated.

She emphasized that no decisions should be made without her explicit consent that could affect the role, responsibilities, and involvement of the Kapur family in Sona Comstar.
