New Delhi, May 10 (NationPress) Turkey should refrain from engaging in the conflict between India and Pakistan and must avoid supplying arms to either side, stated global investor Jim Rogers on Saturday.
His remarks followed a report from the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) highlighting that Pakistan allegedly utilized Turkish-made drones during India’s ongoing ‘Operation Sindoor’, which was launched in response to the horrific Pahalgam tragedy that resulted in 26 fatalities.
“I would not recommend anyone provide arms to Pakistan or India. I sincerely hope that Turkey will maintain its distance,” Rogers expressed during an interview with IANS.
“If I were to advise Turkey, I would suggest they remain neutral. Stay at home. Let’s not interfere,” he further added.
During a press briefing on Friday, the MEA reported that Pakistan employed between 300 to 400 Turkish drones in attempts to infiltrate 36 locations across India, targeting military installations on May 8-9.
As the Indian armed forces evaluate these drones, “initial analyses indicate that they are Turkish Asisguard Songar drones,” noted Colonel Sofiya Qureshi in the press conference.
The Indian military successfully intercepted many of these drones using both kinetic and non-kinetic measures.
Manufactured by the Turkey-based defense firm Asisguard, the Songar drones were first unveiled in April 2019 and delivered to the Turkish Armed Forces (TAF) after successful testing in February 2020. These drones represent Turkey’s inaugural indigenous armed UAVs.
In response, significant Indian travel firms such as EaseMyTrip, Cox & Kings, and Travomint have halted all travel packages to Turkey due to its support for Pakistan.
Additionally, there is a complete suspension of bookings to Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan, reflecting national sentiment and increasing concerns regarding safety and diplomatic relations.
This decision signifies a broader trend in the industry, with businesses becoming increasingly conscious of their international dealings and their implications for national interests.
The government of Azerbaijan has issued a statement condemning India’s military initiatives, voicing concerns over civilian casualties and advocating for a diplomatic resolution.
