Los Angeles, Sep 13 (NationPress) English actor Benedict Cumberbatch expressed his fondness for Halloween, stating that he enjoys the opportunity to conceal his identity while out with his family to help protect their privacy.
The star of Sherlock, who is married to actress and filmmaker Sophie Hunter, shares that Halloween allows him to wear a mask without seeming out of place.
During his guest appearance on the Dish podcast, Cumberbatch remarked: "Halloween is my favorite time of year. Last year, I dressed up as Chewbacca from Star Wars, and it was absolutely fantastic! I was grooving to the tunes of a Michael Jackson impersonator, even though my vision was quite limited.
"The impersonator was visibly frustrated because I was inadvertently encroaching on his space, as people began to shift their focus from him to 'dancing Chewbacca.' I can only imagine he was thinking, 'Hee hee! Hee hee!' I wonder if someone captured that moment online."
Cumberbatch continued, stating: "Honestly, in situations like this, or at film premieres, or even in a theatre, I feel at home as an actor. Yet, when I'm in the audience, I don't bother to disguise myself.
"When I'm with my family, however, I try to keep a low profile because I want to shield them from unwanted attention and allow them their right to privacy. Outside of that, I must simply embrace my public persona. It's not always easy.
"It's quite strange entering a room where many people might recognize you, yet you don’t know them personally."
On the podcast, Cumberbatch was accompanied by his co-star from The Roses, Olivia Colman, who shared her own experiences with fans approaching her for photos, even in restrooms, as reported by femalefirst.co.uk.
She recounted: "People ask for selfies while I’m in the stall. I've even had knocks on the cubicle door while I’m washing my hands."
Colman mentioned that she took a break from public outings but has gained confidence after relocating to a home outside of London.
