Jamie Lee Curtis Reveals She Was Unaware of Halloween Trilogy
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Los Angeles, March 15 (NationPress) Renowned Hollywood star Jamie Lee Curtis revealed that had she known the new ‘Halloween’ film was part of a trilogy, she might have opted out of the project.
The 67-year-old actress agreed to reprise her role in David Gordon Green’s ‘Halloween’, which serves as a sequel to her iconic 1978 film produced by Blumhouse Productions. However, she confessed to being unaware that she would be involved in two additional sequels, as reported by ‘Female First UK’.
Despite this, Curtis went on to star in ‘Halloween Kills’ and ‘Halloween Ends’, leveraging these films to secure a development deal with Jason Blum of Blumhouse.
During a panel at SXSW, titled If Not Now, When, if Not Me, Who? Pivoting and Manifesting, Curtis shared, “The only reason I am sitting in this chair today is because of Jason. Jason Blum, who runs Blumhouse, is the one who brought back the ‘Halloween’ movies. Had they informed me it would be a trilogy, I doubt I would have accepted the offer. Jason Blum is known for being cost-effective.”
“What’s the secret to making low-budget films? It’s simple—you don’t compensate people. That’s the formula. While we were in the editing phase, David mentioned, ‘You know it’s a trilogy’. My reaction was, ‘Uh, no’. I approached Jason Blum and suggested, ‘I have some ideas, perhaps you could offer me a first-look deal? Just pay me a bit for my efforts’. I proposed to Jason, ‘How about a small development deal?’ And since I was contracted for two Halloween movies, he had little choice but to agree. Jason Blum granted me a vanity deal,” she elaborated.
According to ‘Female First UK’, she expressed her desire for this deal to collaborate with filmmaker Russell Goldman.
She subsequently hired Goldman for her Comet Pictures company, which is set to premiere his debut film ‘Sender’ at SXSW.
Even as she explores genres beyond horror since the ‘Halloween’ series, the actress maintains a deep affection for the horror genre.
