Key Takeaways
Mumbai, Jan 27 (NationPress) The late icon of cinema, Dharmendra, has been honored posthumously with the esteemed Padma Vibhushan for his remarkable contributions to the film industry.
As tributes flow in for the legendary 'He-Man' of Bollywood, filmmaker Anil Sharma, who collaborated with Dharmendra on the 2007 film "Apne", shared an emotional reflection on the actor's legacy.
Sharma expressed that he believed Dharmendra should have received this prestigious recognition earlier, allowing him to accept the Padma Vibhushan in person.
On his official X (formerly known as Twitter) account, Anil Sharma wrote, "Sincere congratulations to all the admirers of @aapkadharam ji on his #PadmaVibhushan."
"One only wishes this honour had come earlier, when he could have accepted it himself… the joy would have been immeasurable. Yet the truth remains… some legacies rise above awards. The love, respect, and admiration Dharam ji received from generations is far greater than any title, medal or any award," the 'Gadar' director added.
Numerous figures from the entertainment industry took to social media to express their congratulations.
Notably, veteran actress and politician Hema Malini thanked the Government for recognizing her late husband, Dharmendra, with the Padma Vibhushan.
She stated on the micro-blogging platform, “So proud that the government has acknowledged Dharam ji’s immense contribution to the film industry by awarding him the prestigious Padma Vibhushan.”
Moreover, Dharmendra's daughter, actress Esha Deol, expressed her happiness in a heartfelt post, saying, "Really happy that our papa is being conferred with the prestigious Padma Vibhushan Award" (folded hands emoji).
Recently, Dharmendra was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital in South Mumbai due to breathing difficulties but was later discharged after treatment.
Unfortunately, after his health worsened again, he was placed on a ventilator and sadly passed away on November 24 at the age of 89.
