Television actress Gautami Kapoor has publicly backed her husband, actor Ram Kapoor, amid controversy over his conduct on the reality show Lock Upp: Sach Ya Sazaa. In a video statement posted on 20 July, Gautami dismissed accusations branding Ram as 'sleazy' and urged viewers to withhold judgment based on edited footage.

Gautami opened her statement by acknowledging she had initially chosen to stay silent. 'I had actually decided not to speak up regarding the show Lock Upp, but I think the last 2-3 days are kind of refraining me from being silent,' she said.

She directly addressed the criticism circulating online: 'A lot of people are passing judgments and comments, saying that he's a sleaze, he's a tharki, he's an old man who has some vested interests. So let me tell you guys that this is the way Ram is.' She was quick to clarify, however, that she was not defending his personality but rather his intent — describing him as 'a man who is all heart' who entered the show 'without any strategy or any plan.'

The Boundary Allegation That Sparked the Row

The controversy intensified after fellow contestant Shreya Kalra accused Ram of crossing personal boundaries, alleging that he had attempted to kiss her and remarked that her father 'doesn't kiss' her as much. The accusation drew sharp reactions from viewers and on social media.

Gautami questioned the timing of the backlash, suggesting it may be linked to Ram's decision not to support Shreya as gang leader despite her having backed him through tasks. 'Maybe he should have, but that's one's personal decision. So I don't want to comment on that,' she said.

'The episodes are edited. We don't know what the whole story is. We only see the edited version. So before passing these heavy and toxic comments, please understand that all these things are trickling down to our family,' she said, appealing for consideration.

Gautami ended her video on a note of unconditional support. 'I'm definitely going to support my husband till the very end. Ram, we love you, and we are rooting for you,' she said.
