Chennai, Dec 7 (NationPress) Actress Krithi Shetty, who portrays a Gypsy spirit reader in director Nalan Kumarasamy's forthcoming Tamil film 'Vaa Vaathiyaar', featuring actor Karthi in the lead role, has revealed that she actually encountered a spirit just a day before she commenced shooting for the film!
In an exclusive conversation with IANS, Krithi Shetty, who has three major Tamil film releases coming up in succession, stated, "I play a Gypsy spirit reader in Nalan sir's film. Essentially, I serve as a medium."
So, does this film delve into the realm of the supernatural? "It has a touch of that. This character injects a mystical essence to the entire film. It's quite peculiar, yet thrilling to portray a character like this as I haven't seen much of it in Indian cinema myself."
When asked if she believes in spirits or has had any supernatural encounters, she replied, "I absolutely believe in spirits. Being Tulu, we honor our ancestors and hold the belief that they are ever-present around us, guiding us like guardian angels. So, without a doubt, I believe in spirits."
She continued, "Something unusual happened to me the night before I began filming, which deepened my belief in spirits. I saw a spirit in my hotel room. It was very, very strange right before my first day of shooting. I’m unsure if the spirit came to assist me or if it was a result of my preparation for the character."
"I couldn’t see the spirit's face, but I observed its form. When we switched on the light, a loud noise startled my mother and me, and we exchanged glances, aware that this was something beyond natural," she reminisces.
This encounter, she explains, significantly reinforced her conviction in her character.
"In a sense, I ought to be thankful to that spirit for strengthening my belief in my character. When you tell people that mediums can communicate or view spirits, I am certain that many would be skeptical. I myself was before this film. But after this incident, I had no alternative. It undeniably enhanced my commitment to my role," she elaborates.
Alongside Karthi and Krithi Shetty, the film will feature a talented ensemble cast including Sathyaraj, Rajkiran, Anand Raj, Shilpa Manjunath, Karunakaran, G M Sundar, Ramesh Thilak, P L Thenappan, Vidhya Borgia, Nivas Adthitan, and Madhur Mittal.
Interestingly, Karthi takes on the role of a police officer, with Karunakaran portrayed as his subordinate.
The film’s cinematography is handled by George C Williams, while Vetre Krishnan manages editing. Stunt choreography is by Anal Arasu, and the choreography is credited to Sandy and Sharief.
Lyrics for the songs are written by Vivek, Kelithee, and Muthamil, and costume design is by Poornima Ramaswamy, Aegan Ekambaram, and Pallavi Singh.
