Los Angeles, Oct 17 (NationPress) Renowned actor Keanu Reeves disclosed that upon his arrival in Hollywood, his manager suggested he should alter his name.
The 61-year-old star recounted that his manager believed that his name could hinder his career opportunities.
In a discussion on the New Heights podcast, Reeves mentioned: "I started earning money as an actor at the age of 16, making me a professional by 16 or 17. I was living in Toronto, Canada, when I got a manager based in Los Angeles ... At 20, I drove my car to LA."
"As soon as I got out of my car, my manager proposed, 'We want to change your name.' To me, that was a quintessential Hollywood moment. I recall strolling on the beach, pondering, 'My name? What if I change it? What?'
Reeves shared that he briefly entertained the idea of adopting the name 'Chuck Spadina', according to reports from femalefirst.co.uk.
Nonetheless, the actor ultimately resolved to remain true to himself in his journey to success in Hollywood.
The celebrated star, recognized for his role as the lead assassin in the John Wick film series, stated: "My middle name is Charles, so I thought, '…Chuck?' I grew up on Spadina Avenue, hence Chuck Spadina. At one point, I considered being something Templeton. Finally, I became KC Reeves.
He continued: "I was credited as KC Reeves … Yet, I couldn’t embrace it. During auditions, when they called out 'KC Reeves,' I wouldn’t even respond. Six months later, I realized, 'I’m not doing this.' That was a true Hollywood experience."
In a related note, last September, Leonardo DiCaprio shared that he was advised his name was too ethnic for Hollywood.
During his appearance on the New Heights podcast, DiCaprio recalled: "I asked, 'What do you mean, it's Leonardo DiCaprio?' They said, 'No, too ethnic. They’ll never hire you.'"
The award-winning actor was given a new moniker by his former agent.
He was told, "Your new name is Lenny Williams. I responded, 'What is Lenny?' … 'We took your middle name (Wilhelm) and made it your last name. Now you’re Lenny.'"
However, his father, George DiCaprio, quickly dismissed the suggestion.
