Maggie Gyllenhaal Discusses Jake Gyllenhaal's Humor During ‘The Bride!’
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Los Angeles, March 4 (NationPress) Renowned Hollywood actress Maggie Gyllenhaal opened up about her journey while directing her second film, ‘The Bride!’. She made it a point to involve her family in this project.
In this daring follow-up to her Oscar-nominated debut, ‘The Lost Daughter’, the 48-year-old actress teamed up with Jessie Buckley and Christian Bale to reinterpret ‘The Bride of Frankenstein’, featuring Buckley in the lead role and Bale as her monstrous counterpart, according to reports from ‘People’.
The film also marks a reunion with her husband, Peter Sarsgaard, who appeared in her first directorial effort.
According to ‘People’, her brother, Jake Gyllenhaal, 45, takes on a minor role as a 1930s matinee idol named Ronnie Reed, and this is the first time Maggie has directed him.
When questioned about collaborating with her brother, who last appeared alongside her in 2001's Donnie Darko, Maggie expressed to ‘People’, "Honestly, I wish I could provide more drama, but it was an absolute joy."
She went on to say, "In the film, he plays more of a cameo. So, when he arrived on set dressed in his tuxedo, it was so amusing. Although there is some humor from Ronnie Reid, just being with him made me laugh uncontrollably. Watching him on the monitors brought me to tears from laughing so hard. It was a pleasure working with him.”
Maggie acknowledged that crafting and directing the high-budget ‘The Bride!’ was a significant challenge, filled with both terror and immense excitement each day, stating it felt “incredible” to have her husband and brother on set.
"This movie celebrates the aspects of ourselves that don’t conform to societal norms, regardless of appearance, fashion, or music tastes. Everyone has these parts that we might label as monstrous or punk, but those are the very parts we aim to celebrate. Even if it’s daunting, that was the essence of our film, and the energy on set reflected that," she concluded.
