Murder, directed by Anurag Basu and produced by Mahesh and Mukesh Bhatt, is the inaugural film in the Murder franchise. It draws inspiration from the 2002 American movie Unfaithful, which itself was influenced by the 1969 French film The Unfaithful Wife. The movie also features Emraan Hashmi and Ashmit Patel.
The film was later remade in Kannada as Ganda Hendathi. Upon its release, it garnered a dedicated fanbase and initiated a film series that continued with Murder 2 in 2011 and Murder 3 in 2013.
Mahesh, son of director Nanabhai Bhatt, emerged as one of the most notable directors in the Indian film industry over the following decade, creating both art-house films like Daddy and Swayam.
He also directed popular commercial romantic films, including Aashiqui and Dil Hai Ki Manta Nahin.

Mallika, who last appeared in “Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video” alongside Rajkummar Rao and Triptii Dimri, began her cinematic journey in 2002 with the film “Jeena Sirf Merre Liye”, where she was credited as Reema Lamba. Her rise to fame started in 2000 when she was dubbed a sex symbol due to her role in “Murder”, a 2004 romantic thriller.
The actress also ventured into international cinema with films such as “Hisss” and “Politics of Love”.
Her filmography includes various titles like “Khwahish”, “Bachke Rehna Re Baba”, “Pyaar Ke Side Effects”, “Aap Ka Suroor - The Real Love Story”, “Welcome”, and “Kis Kis Ki Kismat”, among many others.
