Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Director Pandiraaj's much-anticipated dark comedy thriller 'Parimala & Co' has received a U/A certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), clearing the way for its worldwide theatrical release on 5 June 2025. The film stars Jayaram and Urvasi in the lead roles and marks Pandiraaj's 12th directorial venture.
Official Release Announcement
Production house Lyca Productions confirmed the certification and release date on X, posting: '#ParimalaAndCo is all set to hit the screens. See U/And your family in theatres on Jun 5. #ParimalaAndCoInCinemasJun5.' The film is jointly produced by Lyca Productions, Tamilkumaran Productions, and Pandiraaj's own banner Pasanga Productions.
How the Script Was Born
Pandiraaj has revealed that the film's story originated during the COVID-19 lockdown, born out of a creative challenge. His assistant director Ashwin — who later directed the superhit 'Couple Friendly' — suggested Pandiraaj watch a web series on an OTT platform, prompting Pandiraaj to claim he could write a comparable story within a week.
'I watched it and told him that I could write stories like the one he had suggested in a week's time. He said, "Do it." I accepted his challenge and did this story,' Pandiraaj said. The script was subsequently refined into a dark comedy format after collaborators, including director Jagan and assistant Divya, encouraged him to take it to the screen.
Story and Setting
According to sources, 'Parimala & Co' revolves around a family, exploring the distinct personalities of each member and the complications they face. The narrative begins in Chennai before shifting to Coimbatore and Palacode as the story progresses — spanning multiple Tamil Nadu locations to broaden its dramatic canvas.
Cast and Ensemble
Beyond leads Jayaram and Urvasi, the film features a notable ensemble. Santhosh Sobhan and Sanchana Krishnamoorthy play pivotal roles, while Sandy and Ananthika Sanalkumar are also part of the cast. Comedian Yogi Babu reportedly has a lengthy role that runs through much of the film, and director Mysskin appears as a police officer. Comedians Singam Puli and Baks round out the ensemble in important supporting parts.
With its blend of thriller and comedy, a lockdown-era origin story, and an ensemble cast that spans comedy veterans to respected directors, 'Parimala & Co' arrives in cinemas on 5 June 2025 with considerable audience anticipation.
