Is Paris Hilton Battling a 'Demon in Her Mind'?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Los Angeles, Jan 26 (NationPress) Reality star Paris Hilton is candidly discussing her emotional struggles. She has likened her experience with rejection sensitivity dysphoria to having “a demon in your mind”.
The 44-year-old socialite and reality personality was first diagnosed with ADHD in her late 20s, later discovering she also has RSD, characterized by intense emotional reactions to perceived or actual criticism, according to Female First UK.
During an appearance on Dear Media's podcast The Him and Her Show, she explained, “It’s basically, like, any thought of a negative perception, if you think someone is being rude or you feel something. You will feel it like it’s physical pain and it’s not even real. It’s kind of just this, almost like a demon in your mind that is, like, saying negative self-talk to you.”
The Cleveland Clinic indicates a connection between RSD and ADHD. The star of The Simple Life emphasized that individuals with this condition experience negative feelings “on such a deep level”, and she has learned to recognize when those emotions are “the RSD kicking in.”
She stated, “I've been through so many things in my life and especially in the 2000s, just everything I was going through with the media. I'm obsessed with learning more about it and spreading the message, because I want people to know that it doesn't have to be something that holds them back in life; it could be something that they can harness as a superpower, to really go for their dreams in life.”
As reported by Female First UK, Paris pointed out that her late diagnosis of ADHD was influenced by society not “talking about” the condition during her childhood, which negatively impacted her education.
Now, she aims to “reframe” the conversation surrounding this topic, adding, “I see this as my superpower, and I wouldn't be the entrepreneur I am today without it. It was me, like, this drive, and always being in the future, and there are hard parts about it too, very overwhelming.”
