Mumbai, Dec 12 (NationPress) Priyanka Chopra Jonas, one of India's most celebrated actresses, shares that welcoming vulnerability has become a key element of her personal growth, particularly in a society that often glorifies unyielding strength.
The international icon emphasizes her efforts to be more emotionally genuine with herself and “not always strive to be the tough girl.”
When asked about the meaning of vulnerability in a world that demands unwavering strength, she responded, “It’s challenging to express it, I believe,” during a conversation with IANS about her film “Born Hungry.”
“The expectation for constant strength is prevalent, which is why this film will truly resonate, as it beautifully merges strength and vulnerability, a delicate balance to achieve,” she added.
Reflecting on her journey, Priyanka remarked that the need to project toughness influenced much of her formative years.
“It’s genuinely difficult to reveal your true self and feelings. I’m diligently working on being more emotionally truthful and not always embodying the tough girl persona,” she stated.
“I was brought up with the belief that showing any flaws was unacceptable. Only the positive aspects of your journey should be visible,” said Priyanka, often viewed as a symbol of strength and confidence.
The actress, who has made a significant impact with her roles in both India and globally, asserts that embracing “messiness and failure” is perfectly acceptable.
“As I mature, I recognize the importance of accepting our authentic reality rather than projecting a curated image. Just be yourself. It's perfectly fine to be messy. It's okay to fail, to succeed, and to simply be human — all part of the human experience,” she expressed.
Playing with appearances and trying to conform to a certain image is something she questions.
She mentioned that her journey into motherhood has also influenced how she perceives herself.
“Perhaps it’s the transition to motherhood, or maybe other changes in my life, but I now yearn for genuine human connections. I’m working on myself and unlearning the tough traits we girls often adopt to navigate challenging environments,” said Priyanka, who is married to American musician Nick Jonas and is a proud mother to their daughter, Malti.
“Currently, I’m focused on discovering and expressing my vulnerable side. That’s the journey I’m on,”
she concluded.
