Mumbai, July 30 (NationPress) Bollywood actor Randeep Hooda, who recently took on the role of director for the 2024 biographical film Swatantrya Veer Savarkar, revealed that directing was not his primary ambition. However, once he ventured into it, he recognized a natural ability and profound insight into the craft.
When discussing his motivation to step into direction, Randeep shared with IANS: “Some individuals are inherently great. Others achieve greatness through effort. Then there are those who have greatness thrust upon them. In my case, direction was kind of thrust upon me.”
He noted that it wasn't a decision he had planned to make at such an early stage in his career.
“Once I embraced it and dedicated myself fully, I realized I possessed a talent for it. I found that I had an instinctual grasp of the art. Throughout my career as an actor, I’ve often been the only person on set—apart from the director—who comprehends the script in detail,” Randeep elaborated.
He considers himself a “great assistant director.”
“I excel as an assistant director on all my projects. While I might not hold the title, I am acutely aware of every aspect. This awareness significantly aided me in this project. Now that I’ve tasted the experience, I am certainly open to doing it again—even though after completing this film, I vowed never to direct again. But that’s rarely the case, right?”
Swatantrya Veer Savarkar chronicles the life of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar. Directed, co-written, and co-produced by Randeep, who also portrays Savarkar, the film offers an in-depth biographical narrative of Savarkar from his early years, highlighting pivotal events in his life, often portraying its central character in an almost reverent manner.
When asked about his most significant creative risk to date, Randeep remarked, “Every creation carries risk—if you genuinely pursue it. I’m uncertain. Risks... they expose you; you become vulnerable. Just as in life, I can’t be sure of how things will unfold. I believe this uncertainty itself is a risk. If you avoid taking chances and fail to push beyond your previous efforts, it can become monotonous—for both the audience and yourself,” said Randeep, who recently walked the ramp for 'Blenders Pride Four Elements'.
