Key Takeaways
Mumbai, Feb 10 (NationPress) Bollywood actress Rani Mukerji asserts that Hindi cinema has consistently showcased powerful female characters, crediting iconic figures such as Nutan and Nargis for establishing this legacy many years ago.
In a special session with IANS, Rani had an enlightening discussion with female officers from the Delhi Police.
While reflecting on the representation of strong women in Hindi films, Rani stated: “I am convinced that our industry has always embraced robust characters. Films featuring Nutan ji such as Bandini and Nargis ji's Mother India are prime examples of this.”
With three decades of experience in the industry, Rani mentioned that she is intentionally striving to continue the legacy left by her predecessors.
“In my current career phase, I aim to uphold the contributions of our seniors, ensuring that every decade, the narratives we present continue to highlight strong women,” said the actress, whose recent project is Mardaani 3.
Discussing her latest film, Mardaani 3, directed by Abhiraj Minawala and produced by Aditya Chopra, Rani explained that the franchise has always tackled pressing social issues. The first film unveiled the harsh truths of human trafficking, while the second explored the chilling mindset of a serial rapist. Now, Mardaani 3 dives into yet another grim reality of society, reinforcing the franchise's commitment to meaningful storytelling.
Joining the cast is Janaki Bodiwala, known for her role in Shaitaan, who plays a significant part in Mardaani 3. The screenplay is crafted by Aayush Gupta, recognized for The Railway Men. The inaugural film of the Mardaani series debuted in 2014, featuring Rani alongside Jisshu Sengupta, Tahir Raj Bhasin, and Anant Vidhaat Sharma in supporting roles. The sequel was released in 2019, helmed by Gopi Puthran, and included Vishal Jethwa.
