Chennai, July 7 (NationPress) Actor Sasikumar, who stars in director Sathya Siva's intense jail break drama 'Freedom', has revealed that he suffered a broken hand during filming.
At a pre-release event for the movie, Sasikumar shared, "'Freedom' is based on a real incident. It narrates the story of a jail break that occurred in 1995, highlighting the escape of refugees from a prison in Vellore, Tamil Nadu. We have depicted the pain and trauma faced by these refugees, who were imprisoned unjustly. My thanks go to producer Pandi for bringing this story to the screen."
The actor recounted the numerous challenges the team encountered while making the film, including an incident where he ended up with a broken hand due to an accidental blow.
"I endured several real hits while filming. For one scene, I was hung upside down, and one of the fighters struck me in the wrong spot. I had previously injured this hand, and the blow landed precisely in that area, resulting in a fracture. As I cried out in pain, the crew initially thought I was merely acting. It took them a moment to understand that I was genuinely hurt, and they quickly came to my aid," he explained.
On a humorous note, he added, "Director Sathya Siva was very serious during production. He wouldn’t smile, nor would he allow us to. I managed to sneak a smile in a poster when he wasn’t watching." He then turned to Lijomol Jose, the film's leading lady, asking, "Did you smile when he wasn’t looking?" She confirmed she had, prompting laughter from the audience.
The film, featuring music by Ghibran, is set to release globally on July 10.
