Actress Sharvari has spotlighted a recurring thread in filmmaker Imtiaz Ali's body of work — a deep preoccupation with coming-of-age narratives and the raw, unfiltered experience of love — as she prepares for the release of her upcoming film 'Main Vapas Aaunga', set to hit cinemas on 12 June 2026. Speaking during the film's promotions alongside Ali and co-actor Vedang Raina, Sharvari offered a rare glimpse into the director's unconventional creative process.

What Sharvari Found Different About Imtiaz Ali

Reflecting on the experience, Sharvari described working with Ali as an exercise in emotional discovery rather than technical instruction. 'I think every experience definitely teaches you something more. But especially with Imtiaz sir, I think the emotional range of a character is something that I got to explore as an actor because it is set in a world that is so different and away from where we live today. The concept of love being so different, so delicate and so pure,' she said.

She noted that Ali's method diverges sharply from conventional direction — he guides actors through emotional landscapes rather than offering precise, scripted briefs. This approach, she said, unlocked something authentic in her performance and in Raina's as well.

The Coming-of-Age Core

'Imtiaz sir writes films that are so beautiful with characters that are coming-of-age. And that's such an exciting time in a person's life, you know, when you're exploring so much about yourself, about love, about the world, and the connections,' Sharvari said. She added that revisiting those emotions through the film was 'very, very exciting' and that she 'thoroughly enjoyed' the collaboration.

The themes of longing and belonging, she suggested, are central to 'Main Vapas Aaunga' — consistent with Ali's filmography, which has long explored displacement, identity, and the bittersweet nature of romantic attachment. Notably, this is Ali's first major theatrical release since 'Amar Singh Chamkila' (2024), and Sharvari's first collaboration with him.
