Mumbai, June 28 (NationPress) Actress Shefali Jariwala, who tragically passed away on Friday night in Mumbai, rose to fame with the remix of her song, 'Kaanta Laga'. The actress shares a captivating link with Bollywood superstar Salman Khan.
In the early 2000s, after the burst of the dot-com bubble, and a decade post the implementation of India's New Economic Policy, the entertainment sector began looking towards Western influences. Yet, to make content appealing, it was essential to retain an Indian essence. This is how the remix of 'Kaanta Laga' was born.
The talented director duo, Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru, known for their work in 'Sanam Teri Kasam', initiated their journey with music videos. They creatively cast Shefali in a daring role of a rebellious girl eager to visit a club.
The release of the music video sparked a national controversy due to its 'indecent' depiction of a young woman engaging with adult magazines, dressing unconventionally for the times, and embodying rebellion.
Salman Khan, who previously collaborated with Radhika and Vinay on 'Lucky: No Time for Love', once advised them to avoid such provocative concepts that could challenge societal morals. He was not pleased with their visual approach in the remix.
Ironically, the same song was incorporated into Salman’s film 'Mujhse Shaadi Karogi', released two years after the remix. Intriguingly, Shefali appeared in the film's song alongside Akshay Kumar, who played Salman’s best friend.
Shefali entered the 'Bigg Boss' house during its 13th season, a show hosted by Salman for nearly 15 years. This marked a full-circle moment for her, as the actress, once dismissed by Salman, was now under his hosting.
Shefali reportedly passed away on Friday due to a cardiac arrest. Her husband, Parag Tyagi, rushed her to a hospital in Andheri, Mumbai, but she was pronounced dead upon arrival. Her remains have been transferred to Cooper Hospital in Andheri for further procedures.
