Mumbai, Oct 11 (NationPress) Filmmaker Shekhar Kapur disclosed how his daughter Kaveri Kapur played a crucial role in diagnosing his Dyslexia.
The creator of 'Masoom' mentioned that Kaveri informed him of her own dyslexia, and when she insisted on taking an online assessment, it was revealed that while she had a mild case, Shekhar was significantly affected by the condition.
In a social media post, he remarked, "A few years back, my daughter mentioned her dyslexia. Her teacher suggested it was a common excuse used by students to gain extra time for tests. Kaveri was adamant about undergoing an online evaluation, and to my surprise, she was mildly dyslexic, while I turned out to be severely dyslexic. At that moment, things began to click for me.. (sic)."
Shekhar admitted that paperwork still intimidates him, and he often wonders how he managed to become a Chartered Accountant despite his learning challenges.
"Forms terrify me.. especially the everyday ones. I've always felt panic when faced with them. I used to think I was just lazy or irresponsible. Yet, how did I achieve success as a Chartered Accountant? It’s a puzzle for me..", wrote the director of 'Mr India'.
Discussing the pervasive impact of Dyslexia on his life, especially in filmmaking, Shekhar noted, "My line producers often joked that while I wouldn't read the schedule, I would still find a way to keep everything on track. We all laughed it off until I acknowledged my dyslexia and realized that it wasn’t avoidance; I simply couldn’t comprehend the documents."
"I finally understood how I had adapted and compensated for my dyslexia in my film projects. In fact, some of my most brilliant creative moments might not be in spite of my dyslexia, but rather because of it! I wonder if there’s a connection, given how many talented individuals also have dyslexia.." he concluded.
