Chennai, Sep 21 (NationPress) Renowned Malayalam actress Shobana, who has collaborated with Mohanlal in an impressive 56 films, expressed her heartfelt congratulations to her co-star on Sunday for being awarded the esteemed Dadasaheb Phalke Award. She noted that this accolade marks a moment of pride for Malayalam cinema.

In a touching post on her Instagram account, Shobana stated, "Sending my warmest wishes to dear Lal @mohanlal for his remarkable achievement in receiving the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. This is a significant moment for Malayalam cinema."

It's worth mentioning that Shobana reunited with Mohanlal after nearly 19 years in the film Tharunam, which debuted earlier this year and became a tremendous success.

Directed by Tharun Moorthy, Tharunam generated immense anticipation among fans for several reasons. Primarily, it marked the return of actress Shobana alongside Mohanlal after almost two decades. Their on-screen chemistry is cherished by fans of Malayalam cinema. Some of their iconic films together include Manichithrathazhu, Thenmavi Kombathu, and Mambazhakkalam.

Moreover, this film was significant as it represented Mohanlal's 360th production and his 56th collaboration with Shobana.

Another prominent Malayalam actor, Soubin Shahir, also took to social media to commend Mohanlal on his achievement.

On Saturday, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting revealed that Mohanlal would be honored with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award 2023 for his significant contributions to Indian cinema.

The announcement via their X account stated, "Following the recommendations of the Dadasaheb Phalke Award Selection Committee, the Government of India is pleased to declare that Shri Mohanlal will receive the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award 2023."

Discussing Mohanlal's illustrious journey in cinema, the statement added, "Mohanlal’s extraordinary cinematic journey inspires countless individuals! The legendary actor, director, and producer is recognized for his iconic contributions to Indian cinema. His unparalleled talent, versatility, and tireless dedication have set a remarkable benchmark in the history of Indian film."

The award ceremony is scheduled for September 23 at the 71st National Film Awards.

Previously, Mohanlal was honored with the Padma Shri in 2001 and the Padma Bhushan in 2019 for his significant contributions to Indian cinema.

In 2009, he made history by becoming the first actor in the Indian film industry to receive the honorary rank of lieutenant colonel in the Territorial Army.
