Chennai, Dec 2 (NationPress) According to industry insiders, the filming for director Jeethu Joseph's much-anticipated Malayalam movie 'Drishyam 3', starring the legendary Mohanlal in the main role, has officially concluded.
It is noteworthy that Mohanlal finished his segments for the movie on Monday. A viral video capturing the actor celebrating with a cake in front of the entire crew has garnered significant attention online.
A snapshot of the unit's clapboard featuring the phrase 'Pack Up' is currently circulating on social media, with sources confirming that the filming has indeed come to a close.
Additionally, Mohanlal began working on this project just before receiving the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the highest honor in Indian cinema.
The movie, which marks the third chapter in the acclaimed franchise, was officially launched with a traditional puja ceremony at a law college near Kochi in September of this year.
Director Jeethu Joseph shared with the press prior to the launch that 'Drishyam 3' will delve into the subsequent phase of Georgekutty's life, the iconic character portrayed by Mohanlal.
"The narrative revolves around the events in Georgekutty's life after a span of four-and-a-half years. That is the essence of the story," Joseph elaborated.
Producer Antony Perumbavoor, a long-time associate of Mohanlal and a crucial contributor to the Drishyam series' success, mentioned that the decision to proceed with the third installment was made after thorough discussions.
"The overwhelming response to the initial two films convinced us that there was more to Georgekutty's journey. We finalized this new edition only after extensive talks with Jeethu," Perumbavoor stated.
The filming took place in various locations, including Thodupuzha and Vagamon, with the final five-day schedule being conducted in Ernakulam.
The Drishyam films have reached cult status in Indian cinema, celebrated for their captivating storytelling, complex suspense, and Mohanlal's outstanding performance.
The inaugural film, released in 2013, set new standards in Malayalam cinema, while its sequel, which came out in 2021, achieved record-breaking viewership both in theaters and on streaming platforms.
As per the producers, 'Drishyam 3' is expected to premiere in March 2026, and anticipation is already soaring among audiences across India and beyond.
