Suriya hails Jyothika's 'System' performance: 'So proud of you pondatti'
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Tamil superstar Suriya has showered praise on wife and actor Jyothika for her layered turn as Sarika in the recently released courtroom drama 'System', calling her performance a masterclass in restraint. In an Instagram post on 3 June, the 'Vikram' actor wrote that he watched Jyothika 'disappear completely into Sarika', signing off with the affectionate Tamil endearment, 'So proud of you pondatti'.
What Suriya said about the film
Describing 'System' as 'such an engaging watch', Suriya credited director Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari and producer Harman Baweja for crafting a film rich in 'intense performances and layers'. 'Late post but have to say this… #System was such an engaging watch,' he wrote on his official Instagram handle.
He also lauded co-star Sonakshi Sinha, who plays Neha Rajvansh in the film. 'You were so powerful as Neha. Loved it!' he posted, tagging the actor.
A husband's tribute
Turning to his wife, Suriya offered the post's most personal note. 'Watched you disappear completely into Sarika. The whole world sees what I've always known… that your silence speaks louder than words... So proud of you pondatti,' he wrote, using the Tamil word for 'wife'.
The actor concluded by congratulating the 'System' team on the film's strong viewership numbers on Prime Video, where it is currently streaming.
Jyothika on playing Sarika
In a separate interaction, Jyothika spoke about why the role drew her in, noting that Sarika, a stenographer, carries unusual depth for a courtroom character. 'I really like Sarika as a character I have not played before,' she said. 'There are too many shades to her and a lot of layers. Also, there's a lot I'm emoting through silence, which was another factor, which was very challenging as an actor.'
She added that courtroom films had been her primary research tool, since she had never visited an actual court. 'We've seen courtrooms and also other films which have been projected very well. So each time it's like learning for us also,' she said.
Why it matters
'System', directed by Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari and produced by Harman Baweja, marks another OTT-led release in a season where streaming has increasingly become the preferred launchpad for performance-driven dramas. Jyothika, who has steadily built a parallel career across Tamil and Hindi cinema, has been positioning herself in character-led roles since her return to acting.
With 'System' trending on Prime Video and Suriya's endorsement adding star wattage to its buzz, the film looks set to extend its run on the streamer through the coming weeks.
