Mumbai, April 19 (NationPress) Renowned Marathi actress Usha Nadkarni shared insights into how she secured the part of Savita Deshmukh in the beloved series 'Pavitra Rishta', featuring the late Sushant Singh Rajput and Ankita Lokhande.
Affectionately called Usha Tai, she appeared on the podcast hosted by Bharti Singh and Harssh Limbachiyaa, where she reminisced about 'Pavitra Rishta', which was broadcast from June 2009 to October 2014.
“Let me share how I landed the role in 'Pavitra Rishta'. I had previously worked in two serials for Balaji—Kuchh Is Tara and Thodi Si Zameen Thoda Sa Aasmaan. I received a call for an audition. Typically, I avoid auditions, only attending those for commercials. However, Balaji Telefilms reached out to me, and another Marathi actress was also invited for the same role,” Usha reflected.
She continued, “When I arrived, I styled my hair, donned a saree, and prepared for the audition. The other actress went first, and then it was my turn. There was a young woman instructing me on what to do, which slightly annoyed me—I thought to myself, 'She’s younger than my own daughter.' I didn’t voice my thoughts, though.”
Usha recounted, “After she spoke again, I finally lost my patience—‘Don’t instruct me; I know what I’m doing.'”
She revealed that the very next day, she received a call following the audition.
“They contacted me the next day, and I assumed I had secured the role after the audition. I went in, work commenced, and Pavitra Rishta continued for five successful years,” she explained.
The series also featured Hiten Tejwani, Asha Negi, Shakti Arora, Rithvik Dhanjani, and Karan Veer Mehra.
The 78-year-old actress also took part in the inaugural season of the reality show 'Bigg Boss Marathi' in 2018, where she remained in the house for 77 days.
Upon her return, Usha disclosed, “I forgot my phone number and how to operate my mobile phone. I even forgot whether my gas stove was automatic or required a lighter. I had been living alone there; the younger girls were so much younger—what could I discuss with them? So, I often found myself sitting alone... They would call me, and I would then go.”
