Mumbai, July 24 (NationPress) Actress Vaani Kapoor has disclosed what distinguishes her forthcoming series, “Mandala Murders,” from other crime thrillers currently available in India.
The actress articulated that the series offers a refreshing take on the genre, featuring an original plot and profound character developments. Vaani, portraying the lead character detective Rea Thomas, stated, “What truly differentiates Mandala Murders is the unique setting; it’s not just another whodunnit. The show merges crime with psychological complexity, delving into the sinister aspects of cult culture, blind faith, and emotional trauma. It’s intricate, immersive, and visually striking.”
“Every character harbors something... a secret, a scar, a conviction... and that depth lends the story a more authentic and captivating feel. It’s disturbingly compelling in the best possible way,” she added.
Vaibhav Raj Gupta, who takes on the role of cop Vikram, noted that what sets Mandala Murders apart from other Indian crime thrillers is its writing and the entire universe surrounding Mandala. “The characters are complex and multifaceted. As an actor, I've never encountered a show like this on Indian OTT platforms. The perspective is refreshingly unique, particularly with the mythology involved. Mandala has crafted its own mythology, which is incredibly intriguing. Additionally, it marks YRF's first foray into the crime drama thriller genre, making it a highly anticipated release.”
Surveen Chawla, who portrays the influential political figure Ananya, contributed, “It's a genre-defying narrative, something rarely attempted, to be candid. Just the concept, the very inception, was always thrilling to me. My character possesses a political background within the series.”
Co-directed by Gopi Puthran and Manan Rawat, Mandala Murders will premiere on Netflix starting July 25. Set in the fictional town of Charandaspur, the series unfolds a compelling narrative featuring two detectives in pursuit of the truth behind a series of ritualistic murders, seemingly connected to a clandestine ancient society that has lingered in the shadows for centuries.
