Mumbai, Dec 2 (NationPress) Actor Vijay Varma has garnered significant acclaim for his role in the recently launched Gustaakh Ishq. He discussed the remarkable work of renowned fashion designer and producer Manish Malhotra, who crafted his character's look, lending it an air of sophistication despite its 'poor' background.
In a conversation with IANS, Vijay highlighted how Manish, while being the film’s producer, played a crucial role in shaping his character’s appearance. “His influence was vital because the storyline unfolds in an area where resources are scarce,” Vijay explained during the discussion with IANS.
He elaborated, “My character is impoverished and struggles to survive financially. I initially thought that someone in his position would naturally appear distressed and ragged. However, since this is a Manish Malhotra project, he chose to portray the character with a unique flair. Although my character possesses very little, he carries it off with style. That’s Manish’s magic, as he truly comprehends the essence of cinema,” Vijay stated.
Reflecting on his career, Vijay Varma has established himself as an exceptional actor. After beginning his journey in Bollywood with a negative role, he aimed to break free from that mold in Gustaakh Ishq, stepping into a romantic lead role.
During his dialogue with IANS, Vijay expressed his desire to move away from playing antagonists. “I was eager to escape the negativity because it can become burdensome,” he stated. “Fans would often tell me, ‘We disliked you in that film; however, you are an incredible actor.’ I wanted to shift the narrative from ‘hate’ to something positive. Whether it’s IC-814, Jaane Jaane, or Murder Mubarak, I felt the need for a change.”
As he described Gustaakh Ishq, Vijay noted, “It’s a charming romantic film filled with love, devotion, and moral dilemmas! There’s a wealth of material for me to explore as an actor.”
He further discussed his transition from negative roles to softer, more positive ones. “Embracing something new often requires adjustment, and it can be challenging. I recall a particularly intense scene in Pink, which was quite graphic. In Gustaakh Ishq, the challenge lies in delivering poetic dialogues and standing convincingly before the legendary Naseeruddin Shah, ensuring I portray all the emotions authentically. It’s a refreshing challenge!”
Vijay concluded, “Shifting your persona can be daunting but enjoyable. After a while, you crave new experiences. Comedy might be my next venture.” Set against the backdrop of retro Delhi, Gustaakh Ishq encapsulates the allure and romance of Old Delhi.
Alongside Vijay, the film features Naseeruddin Shah and Fatima Sana Shaikh. Released on November 28, Gustaakh Ishq is produced under Manish Malhotra’s new production label, Stage5 Production.
