Vijay Vikram Singh's 'Damini' moment with Sunny Deol on Ikka sets
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Actor and voice artist Vijay Vikram Singh, best known as the iconic voice of Bigg Boss, has shared a candid account of his first encounter with Sunny Deol on the sets of the upcoming film Ikka — a moment he describes as driven entirely by unfiltered excitement.
The Damini Moment
Vijay recalled that when he met Sunny Deol for the first time, nerves and enthusiasm got the better of him. 'When I met Sunny sir for the first time, I did not even realise what I was saying. I told him, 'Sunny sir, you are asking for a date from Damini, and finally I will give you a date in this movie,'' he said.
The reference was to Sunny Deol's legendary role as lawyer Govind in the 1993 courtroom drama Damini, where his dialogue Taareek Par Taareek became one of Hindi cinema's most enduring cult lines. Vijay admitted he only registered what he had said after the moment had passed.
Sunny Deol's Warm Response
'Later, I realised that I was so excited that I did not know what I was saying. But he is such a sweet person that he laughed a lot. In fact, he made a video with me on the same topic when we met at the success party,' Vijay revealed.
He added that he subsequently requested Sunny to recreate the moment on camera. 'I requested Sunny sir to make the same video again, and he immediately said, 'Yes, let's make it,'' Vijay said, underlining the warmth he experienced on set.
Working with Two Contrasting Performers
Reflecting on sharing screen space with both Sunny Deol and Akshaye Khanna — two actors known for markedly different performance styles — Vijay said adaptability is central to the craft. 'As an actor, you react. It is all about action and reaction. You have to adapt according to the other person's style,' he explained.
Ikka and His Acting Journey
Vijay credited director Siddharth P. Malhotra with giving him a clear and compelling vision for his character in Ikka. 'My director, Siddharth, had a very beautiful vision. I understood that vision very easily and got into it. That is why people remembered the character,' he said.
He drew a direct parallel between the film and his association with Bigg Boss: 'I say that Ikka did for my acting career what Bigg Boss did for my voice career. It made me known as an actor, while the show made me known as a voice.' Despite a wide body of work across films and web series, Vijay noted that audiences still identify him strongly with specific roles — most notably as Chintamani Sharma from the series Special Ops.
With Ikka now adding a new chapter to his acting portfolio, Vijay Vikram Singh appears to be carving out a distinct identity on both sides of the screen.
