Mumbai, Sep 4 (NationPress) International Emmy Award-winning comedian Vir Das is preparing to make history as the first Indian artist to establish a residency titled 'Hey Stranger' at the prestigious Lincoln Center Theater in New York.
"There’s nothing more exhilarating than starting from the bottom. Engaging with talented individuals who challenge you pushes your craft to a global scale, and for me, that’s always been Broadway," stated Vir.
He further expressed, "This time, it’s Broadway and 65th. It has been a lifelong dream to have a residency. I’ll be at the Lincoln Center Theater, presenting Indian comedy to the world. I hope to see you there!"
The residency will span two weeks, running from October 29 to November 9, 2025.
The Lincoln Center has been a stage for some of the most celebrated artists globally. Legendary figures like sitar virtuoso Ravi Shankar, tabla maestro Zakir Hussain, shehnai genius Bismillah Khan, and Carnatic singer M.S. Subbulakshmi have graced its stage with historical performances.
Vir remarked, "Following in the footsteps of legends like Ravi Shankar ji, Zakir Hussain ji, and M.S. Subbulakshmi ji is a significant responsibility. Although comedy is a different medium, it fundamentally revolves around human connection, bridging cultures and languages to discover what unites us."
He described 'Hey Stranger' as a show born from a need to connect, laugh, reflect, and embrace our shared peculiarities.
Vir shared, "The opportunity to perform for an international audience at a venue renowned for hosting the best is a dream I could never have envisioned at the beginning of my career."
For 'Hey Stranger', Vir is collaborating with Tony Award-nominated director Moritz von Stuelpnagel and Seaview, a distinguished production company known for Broadway and Off-Broadway hits like 'A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder', 'Slave Play', and 'Good Night, and Good Luck'.
Vir concluded, "I’m excited to collaborate with a visionary like Moritz von Stuelpnagel and a powerhouse like Seaview, who have produced some of the most iconic works on Broadway. This is a once-in-a-lifetime chance, and I can’t wait to step onto that stage, see those lights, and perhaps make people laugh, think, and feel less like strangers."
