Zoya Hussain on 'Hunkkaar – The Roar': co-actors carried more weight than I did
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Actress Zoya Hussain says she found it relatively easy to step in and out of her character in the newly released streaming series 'Hunkkaar – The Roar', crediting the lighter load her role carried compared to her co-stars. The show, now streaming on JioHotstar, has drawn considerable positive attention since its release.
What Zoya Said About Her Character
Speaking at a promotional event held at a five-star property in Mumbai, Hussain was candid about the creative demands of the project. 'For me, on this particular project, it was not difficult to switch on and off. It was far easier for me, at least, than it was for my co-actors because I didn't have the same amount of responsibility, or baggage, or whatever. They had a lot more to do than I did,' she said.
She added nuance to the observation, noting that the ease of disengaging from a role is rarely universal. 'It just depends on the intensity of the role, the intensity of your day. Sometimes, your character is very heavy. But if your day is light, it's fine. So, it's really subjective,' she explained.
Co-Stars at the Promotions
Hussain was joined at the event by fellow cast members Fatima Sana Shaikh and veteran actor Raghubir Yadav. The trio spoke about the show and its themes during the promotional interaction in Mumbai on 16 October 2026.
Zoya on Women's Safety
Hussain also addressed the broader thematic context of the show, which touches on women's safety. Asked where society has gone wrong given that women's safety remains unresolved even in 2026, she said, 'So many places we've gone wrong. This is the state of women across the world. In our country definitely, but in every country in the world.'
She elaborated: 'There's no place in the world where you can be like, this is a great place for women. It's in all sectors, across professions, across countries, and across classes. It's ridiculous. In the past 50, 60, 70, 100 years, things have changed in terms of the agency that women have, the opportunities that women are getting are better. But it's not an ideal situation anywhere.'
