Bhopal/Chhindwara, Oct 8 (NationPress) Madhya Pradesh's Health Minister and Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla, during his visit to Dawada, revealed the dismissal of the Chief Medical Officer and Civil Surgeon of Chhindwara, Dr. Naresh Gonare.
In his place, Dr. Sushil Kumar Dubey has been designated as the new CMHO.
This action comes in response to escalating public anger and calls for accountability after the tragic deaths of 17 children in Chhindwara, alongside two in Betul and one in Pandhurna.
While visiting Nagpur to console the families of the affected children, Shukla assured that the government is committed to doing everything possible to safeguard the lives of those still receiving care.
“Two children are being treated at AIIMS Nagpur, two at a government facility, and one at a private hospital. We are dedicated to providing the highest standard of medical care,” he said.
Additionally, he instructed specialist teams to consistently monitor the children's health and ensure premium treatment.
In a major development, a police contingent from Chhindwara has traveled to Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu, to apprehend the owner of the company responsible for producing Coldrif syrup.
Shukla stressed the government's serious approach to the matter, pledging that no one accountable would go unpunished. “We are taking the most stringent action possible,” he declared.
Already, two drug inspectors and a deputy director of the Food and Drug Administration have been suspended, and the state’s drug controller has been reassigned.
Moreover, Dr. Praveen Soni from Chhindwara has been arrested due to allegations of negligence, and legal action has been initiated against the pharmaceutical company based in Tamil Nadu.
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to conduct a thorough inquiry into this incident. The government faces mounting pressure to deliver justice for the victims and prevent similar tragedies in the future. As families grieve the loss of their children, the state is confronted with urgent questions regarding drug safety and regulatory measures.
