Bangkok, Nov 19 (NationPress) A total of 125 Indian nationals were successfully repatriated from Thailand's Mae Sot to India on Wednesday via a special flight operated by the Indian Air Force (IAF).
The Indian Embassy in Bangkok reported that this latest repatriation raises the total number of Indians rescued from scam centers in Myanmar's Myawaddy and returned through Thailand since March to 1500.
This operation is part of the Indian Government's initiative aimed at aiding the repatriation of Indian citizens trapped in scam centers across South-East Asia. The Indian Embassy in Bangkok, alongside the Consulate of India in Chiang Mai, has collaborated with various Thai government agencies and the administration of Tak Province to ensure the safe return of these nationals.
The Embassy issued a strong advisory urging Indian citizens to carefully verify the credentials of foreign employers and to conduct thorough checks on recruiting agents and companies before accepting job offers abroad. The visa-free entry into Thailand for Indian passport holders is intended solely for tourism and brief business activities and should not be misapplied for employment, as emphasized by the Embassy's post on X.
Just a day prior, on Tuesday, 269 Indian nationals, including 11 women, were flown back from Mae Sot on two special IAF flights.
The coordinated efforts of the Indian Embassy in Bangkok and the Consulate in Chiang Mai, working in conjunction with the Royal Thai Government and local administration, facilitated this repatriation process.
According to a post from the Indian Embassy, “Today, the Embassy of India in Bangkok and the Consulate of India in Chiang Mai, with the cooperation of various Thai agencies and the administration of Tak Province, successfully repatriated 269 Indian nationals, including 11 women, from Mae Sot, Thailand, through two special flights operated by the IAF. These individuals were reportedly involved in scam centers in Myawaddy, Myanmar, and were liberated following a recent raid on these compounds.”
Previously, 197 Indian nationals were also returned to India from Mae Sot via two special IAF flights last week.
The Indian Embassy has noted that Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul visited Mae Sot to oversee the operation. During a meeting with India's Ambassador to Thailand, Nagesh Singh, Charnvirakul expressed gratitude for the Indian Government's swift actions in repatriating detainees from Mae Sot and assured ongoing collaboration from Thai authorities to aid in the return of Indian nationals from scam centers in Myanmar.
