El Fasher, Oct 2 (NationPress) - In a tragic incident, eight civilians lost their lives and many others were injured following a drone strike by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) that targeted a residential area in El Fasher, located in western Sudan, as reported by volunteers and an eyewitness.
The Coordination of Resistance Committees in El Fasher, a volunteer organization, stated, "Militia attacks with artillery and drones on civilian territories persist, with today's strike hitting a crowd of civilians in the Al-Daraja Al-Oula neighborhood, resulting in eight fatalities and multiple injuries." This statement was made public on Wednesday (local time).
According to an eyewitness who spoke to Xinhua news agency, "Five civilians died on the spot, while three more succumbed to their injuries after being rushed to the Saudi Hospital in El Fasher. Approximately 12 injured individuals were also taken to the hospital."
As the civil conflict in the country continues, the 6th Infantry Division of the Sudanese army announced on Wednesday that their units, alongside allied forces, successfully ambushed an RSF unit trying to infiltrate El Fasher.
"A significant number of foreign mercenaries were neutralized, including some who were experts in drone and electronic systems," the division indicated.
Media associated with the army shared video evidence showing the bodies of RSF fighters in the southern section of El Fasher.
To date, the RSF has not commented on the recent events in El Fasher.
Since May 10, 2024, violent clashes have persisted in El Fasher between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and their allies on one side and the RSF on the other, with hostilities escalating in recent days.
Sudan remains entrenched in conflict between the SAF and the RSF, which began in April 2023. This ongoing violence has resulted in the deaths of tens of thousands and the displacement of millions, exacerbating the country’s humanitarian crisis.
