Dhaka, April 13 (NationPress) A court in Bangladesh has issued arrest warrants for 51 individuals, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her sister Sheikh Rehana, related to three distinct cases concerning irregularities in plot allocations for the Purbachal New Town project.

Local reports indicate that the court has also issued warrants for Sheikh Rehana’s children, Radwan Mujib Siddiq Bobby, Azmina Siddiq, and UK MP Tulip Rizwana Siddiq, in separate cases linked to the plot allocation scandal.

The order was passed by Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Zakir Hossain Galib after reviewing charge sheets presented by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

According to reports, the court has mandated the submission of a progress report on the implementation of the arrests by April 27.

Earlier this week, the same court had issued a warrant for 18 individuals, including Sheikh Hasina and her daughter Saima Wazed Putul, in a case regarding corruption in plot allotments under the same initiative.

The former Prime Minister faces a total of six allegations concerning irregularities in plot allocations associated with the Purbachal New Town project.

Additionally, a tribunal in Bangladesh has also issued an arrest warrant for Sheikh Hasina and four others, including former Inspector General of Police Benazir Ahmed, related to alleged mass killings at Shapla Chattar in Dhaka in 2013.

In January, a special tribunal in Dhaka issued an arrest warrant for Sheikh Hasina and 11 others over cases of enforced disappearances.

Sheikh Hasina, daughter of Bangladesh’s founder Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, fled the country in a disgraceful manner and sought refuge in India on August 5.

While addressing her supporters online from India in February, the ousted Prime Minister accused the Yunus-led interim government of transforming the nation into a hub of alleged terrorism and lawlessness.
