Ontario, Nov 12 (NationPress) External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar engaged in talks with his Canadian counterpart, Anita Anand, focusing on enhancing collaboration in crucial sectors such as trade, energy, and security.
The two leaders convened during the G7 Foreign Ministers' Meeting held in Niagara.
In a post on X, Anand welcomed EAM Jaishankar to Niagara, stating, "We discussed cooperation on trade, energy, security, and people-to-people ties."
As per a statement from Canada's Department of Global Affairs, this was the third occasion the leaders met this year, showcasing the increasing momentum in their bilateral relationship.
Anand expressed her heartfelt condolences to EAM Jaishankar regarding the tragic explosion in Delhi that occurred on Monday evening, reaffirming Canada’s solidarity with the people of India.
The ministers shared insights on the ongoing law enforcement dialogue between Canadian and Indian authorities, as well as the progress on the Canada-India joint roadmap, which outlines a strategy to enhance collaboration in vital areas, including energy, trade, and people-to-people ties, according to the statement from Global Affairs Canada.
Minister Anand acknowledged India's participation in G7 discussions this year, recognizing India as the fourth largest economy and an essential partner for Canada, given their over 75 years of diplomatic relations. The two ministers committed to maintaining communication as they work towards executing the Canada-India roadmap.
During their meeting, EAM Jaishankar commended the advancements made under the New Roadmap 2025, which aims to fortify bilateral relations between India and Canada, expressing optimism for establishing a stronger partnership.
"I was pleased to meet FM Anita Anand of Canada today. I congratulated her on hosting the G7 Foreign Ministers' Meeting and appreciated the progress in implementing the New Roadmap 2025. I look forward to further strengthening our bilateral partnership," the EAM wrote on X on Wednesday.
EAM Jaishankar is currently visiting Canada to attend the G7 Foreign Ministers' Meeting with Outreach Partners, at the invitation of Anita Anand.
This visit comes shortly after Anand's recent trip to India, where both ministers agreed on an ambitious roadmap for bilateral cooperation.
