Karachi, May 19 (NationPress) A prominent operative of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), Abdul Wahid Kumbho, was shot dead, followed by the execution of another top LeT figure, Razaullah Nizamani Khalid, also referred to as Abu Saifullah Khalid, by armed assailants in Sindh province on Sunday, as confirmed by local sources on Monday.
Reports indicate that the recent surge in these so-called targeted killings of LeT militants across various regions of Pakistan has escalated following India's decisive 'Operation Sindoor', which dismantled numerous terrorist facilities within Pakistan earlier this month.
Nizamani was responsible for orchestrating several significant terror attacks in India before relocating to Nepal and eventually establishing his base in Sindh province, all while receiving full protection from Pakistani security agencies. Kumbho, who presented himself as a social worker, was affiliated with LeT's political wing, the Milli Muslim League (MML). His assassination occurred in the same vicinity of Matli in the Badin district of Pakistan’s Sindh province, just before Nizamani was killed.
Local agencies reported, “Abdul Wahid Kumbho was killed instantly, while another individual named Tahir sustained injuries. Authorities apprehended two suspects, Ghulam Shabir and Rafaqat, linked to the Sindhi nationalist group Sindh Desh Revolution Army.”
This group, which maintains a robust presence in the interior of the province, has splintered into various factions, one of which is led by Shafi Burfat, who is reportedly residing in Afghanistan. Some factions of this group also have direct ties with the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), a local source added.
Despite these targeted killings becoming a significant concern for the Pakistani government and security forces, they remain largely unreported by local media.
In the past, Islamabad has accused New Delhi of employing proxies based in Afghanistan to execute targeted assassinations throughout Pakistan.
A group identifying itself as 'The Resistance Front' (TRF) has claimed responsibility for the abhorrent April 22 Pahalgam attack in India's Jammu and Kashmir, which resulted in the deaths of 26 innocent civilians.
This group acts as a front for the UN-designated Pakistani terrorist organization, Lashkar-e-Taiba. Notably, India has provided insights about TRF in its semi-annual report to the Monitoring Team of the UN's 1267 Sanctions Committee in May and November 2024, highlighting its role as a cover for terrorist groups based in Pakistan. Previously, in December 2023, India informed the monitoring team regarding the operations of LeT and Jaish-e-Mohammad through smaller terror networks like TRF. India's push to eliminate references to TRF in the April 25 UN Security Council Press Statement is noteworthy in this context,” stated Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri during a special media briefing on Operation Sindoor in New Delhi earlier this month.
