Prague, Oct 5 (NationPress) The opposition ANO party in the Czech Republic, led by former Prime Minister Andrej Babis, has emerged victorious in the recent parliamentary election, based on official results from a nearly complete vote count.

With over 99 percent of the voting districts reported, ANO secured approximately 34.6 percent of the votes, while the ruling center-right SPOLU coalition followed with 23.3 percent, as reported by the Xinhua news agency.

Other parties that crossed the 5 percent threshold included the Mayors and Independents (STAN) at 11.2 percent, the Pirate Party with 8.9 percent, the far-right Freedom and Direct Democracy (SPD) at roughly 7.8 percent, and the populist Motorists for Themselves with nearly 6.8 percent.

Babis characterized the election outcome as the pinnacle of his political journey.

"We are incredibly pleased and extend our gratitude to everyone who participated in the polls," he remarked, asserting that ANO achieved a groundbreaking result.

He further noted that his party possesses a distinct agenda and aims to improve the nation.

"A government will be formed that will genuinely work hard, that will be managed effectively, and that will implement the program from the outset," he stated.

The current Prime Minister Petr Fiala, also the chairman of the Civic Democratic Party in the Spolu alliance, acknowledged ANO's victory. "I congratulate the election winner, Andrej Babis."

The leader of the Pirate Party, Zdenek Hrib, proclaimed that he would categorically not join a ruling coalition with ANO or the SPD.

Instead, he suggested that his party could serve as a robust and vocal opposition.

The young Motorists for Themselves Party ranked sixth in the parliament, positioning itself as a potential junior partner in the forthcoming government formation discussions. Party chairman Petr Macinka declared, "We are the only truly right-wing party, and we intend to monitor Babis closely."

Katerina Konecna, leader of the Stacilo! Movement, expressed that it's evident the left-wing party will not have representation in the new parliament.

She voiced skepticism regarding the ability of a right-wing government to tackle the issues facing the citizens of the Czech Republic. "We are not halting. We are progressing forward."

According to official data, the voter turnout reached about 68.92 percent.

The Czech Statistical Office stated that this year's voter turnout exceeded that of 2021, marking the highest participation since the parliamentary elections in 1998, when 74 percent of voters cast their ballots.
