Port Louis, July 2 (NationPress) Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri engaged with prominent Mauritian officials, including Pravind Jugnauth, the former Prime Minister and Leader of the Mouvement Socialiste Militant (MSM) Party, to explore methods for enhancing the long-standing, people-focused relationship between India and Mauritius.
The High Commission of India in Mauritius shared on the social media platform X, "Foreign Secretary, Vikram Misri, met with Pravind Jugnauth, former Prime Minister and Leader of the Mouvement Socialiste Militant Party. The discussions revolved around the enduring and special nature of India-Mauritius relations that are rooted in the people."
Post-meeting, the former Mauritian Prime Minister expressed on social media, "I had a very productive meeting with Foreign Secretary V. Misri. This exchange allowed us to discuss matters of mutual interest that will enable the Indo-Mauritian relationship to continue to prosper."
Misri also paid a courtesy visit to Dharambeer Gokhool, President of Mauritius, where they discussed various opportunities for enhancing bilateral cooperation, particularly in sectors such as health, education, traditional medicine, and community development initiatives.
Earlier on Tuesday, during a meeting with Navinchandra Ramgoolam, Prime Minister of Mauritius, both reaffirmed the deep-rooted and unique ties between India and Mauritius, pledging to bolster their strategic partnership in alignment with the evolving priorities of the new government.
The talks also encompassed Vision MAHASAGAR (Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security Across the Region) as a framework for enhanced regional collaboration, India’s commitment to furthering its development partnership, and the upcoming visit of PM Ramgoolam to India.
Additionally, Paul Raymond Bérenger, the Deputy Prime Minister of Mauritius, expressed his commitment to further strengthening the enduring bonds of friendship between India and Mauritius during his discussions with Misri.
Moreover, Misri met with Dhananjay Ramful, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade of Mauritius. Their discussions included ongoing and planned initiatives under the India-Mauritius Joint Vision for an Enhanced Strategic Partnership and other areas of mutual interest.
Misri's visit to Mauritius on Tuesday was aimed at reinforcing the bilateral relationship, which is characterized by profound and lasting ties founded on shared friendship, culture, and a common civilizational heritage.
