Brussels, June 10 (NationPress) External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar informed the Indian diaspora in Belgium and Luxembourg regarding the initiatives undertaken by the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to combat cross-border terrorism and promote the country's progress and prosperity.

During a vibrant exchange with the Indian community in these European nations, the EAM elaborated on the ongoing strengthening of India-Belgium relations and the engagement with the European Union.

"Terrorism is not just a challenge for one nation; it's a global issue. Yet, what sets India apart is that few nations use it as a state policy. While terrorism exists in Europe, neighboring countries do not endorse it as a state policy," he stated, highlighting the role of Pakistan in sponsoring cross-border terrorism.

He emphasized that India has faced the brunt of terrorism more than any other nation in recent times and expressed India's unwavering resolve to fight against this menace.

Reflecting on the objectives of Operation Sindoor, EAM remarked, "The mission focused on targeting Muridke and Bahawalpur, the two notorious centers of terrorism in Pakistan from where attacks on India have been orchestrated for decades. This time, India is determined to convey that we will track down and eliminate terrorists, irrespective of their location."

Moreover, during his address, EAM reiterated the importance of enhancing ties between India and Europe.

"To provide context to my visit, I believe everyone residing in Belgium, at the heart of Europe, recognizes that significant events are unfolding globally, especially concerning Europe, and there’s a growing interest in establishing stronger ties with India," Jaishankar stated.

"Historically, we have enjoyed good political relations as one of the first countries to recognize India diplomatically. Our current aim is not to rest on our laurels but to intensify cooperation in various domains, especially in economic and people-to-people interactions that benefit our communities," he added.

He noted that like India, Europe is also gravitating towards the concept of 'Atmanirbhar Bharat', taking the initiative to resolve its own challenges.

"This reflects a broader trend, with nations acknowledging the need for self-reliance. Europe is recognizing its own issues must be addressed internally, necessitating stronger relationships with other countries," he asserted.

Additionally, EAM Jaishankar praised the contributions of the Indian community worldwide.

"I want to emphasize that in the past decade, under PM Narendra Modi's leadership, the Government of India has prioritized the Indian diaspora. We see you as integral to our global engagement," he mentioned.

The External Affairs Minister is currently on an official visit to France, the EU, and Belgium from June 8 to 14, aiming to deepen India's friendly relations and invigorate ongoing collaboration across diverse fields.

The collaboration between India and Belgium currently encompasses various sectors such as trade, investment, green energy, technology, pharmaceuticals, diamonds, and robust people-to-people connections.

During his stay in Belgium, the EAM also met with his Belgian counterpart and engaged with members of the Indian community.
