Male, Oct 7 (NationPress) The Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh met with Maldives Foreign Affairs Minister Abdulla Khaleel in Male on Tuesday for discussions focused on military cooperation, capacity building, promotion of defence equipment, and regional security in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR).
"Defence Secretary Shri Rajesh Kumar Singh met with Minister of Foreign Affairs, Maldives Dr Abdulla Khaleel during his official visit to the Maldives today. Extensive discussions were held regarding military cooperation, capacity building, defence equipment promotion, and regional security in the IOR, reaffirming defence as a fundamental pillar of the India-Maldives partnership," stated the Directorate of Public Relations, Ministry of Defence on X.
The Defence Secretary, currently on a two-day official visit to the Maldives, also held talks with National Security Advisor (NSA) Ibrahim Latheef, concentrating on enhancing capabilities, capacity building, and addressing emerging challenges in the Indian Ocean Region, as reported by the Indian Ministry of Defence on Tuesday.
According to a statement on X, the Directorate of Public Relations, Ministry of Defence mentioned, "As part of the official visit to the Maldives, Defence Secretary Shri Rajesh Kumar Singh met with National Security Advisor, Maldives Ibrahim Latheef, on 06 Oct 2025. The discussions centered on capacity building, enhancement of capabilities and the emerging maritime challenges in the IOR."
On Monday, Rajesh Kumar Singh represented India at the 6th edition of the Annual Defence Cooperation Dialogue held in Male between India and Maldives.
"Defence Secretary Shri Rajesh Kumar Singh led the Indian delegation for the 6th edition of the Annual Defence Cooperation Dialogue, which took place on 06 Oct 2025 in Male. The Maldives delegation was led by Maj Gen Ibrahim Hilmy, Chief of Defence Forces. Discussions were held on capacity building, training, military exercises, and the evolution of bilateral defence cooperation," as noted in a post on X by the Directorate of Public Relations, Ministry of Defence.
Additionally, Singh had a meeting with Maldives Minister of Defence Mohamed Ghassan Maumoon. Post-meeting, the Directorate of Public Relations, Ministry of Defence shared on X, "Defence Secretary Shri Rajesh Kumar Singh met with H.E. Mohamed Ghassan Maumoon, Minister of Defence, Maldives, in Male today. The two parties explored new opportunities to deepen the existing bilateral defence cooperation and reaffirmed their commitment to shared peace, stability, and security in the IOR."
Earlier in September, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met with his Maldivian counterpart Abdulla Khalil during the sidelines of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. In a post on X, EAM Jaishankar stated, "It was good to meet FM Dr. Abdulla Khaleel of Maldives. Our support for Maldives’ development remains unwavering."
