New Delhi, Aug 19 (NationPress) National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval stated on Tuesday that relations between India and China have seen an "upward trend" and that the borders have remained peaceful since the meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Kazan last year.
The Chinese Foreign Minister arrived in India late Monday afternoon for a two-day visit to discuss various critical issues, including the border situation, trade, and the resumption of flight services.
Doval made these comments during the 24th round of Special Representatives (SR) dialogue concerning the boundary question with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi at Hyderabad House in New Delhi.
"There has been an upward trend. Borders have been quiet. There has been peace and tranquility. Our bilateral engagements have become more substantial. We are particularly grateful to our leaders who, during the Kazan meeting last October, established a new trajectory, which has greatly benefited us," Doval remarked.
He emphasized that the "new environment" fostered by the Kazan talks has facilitated progress in multiple areas of cooperation.
Expressing optimism regarding the ongoing talks, Doval conveyed that India anticipates this 24th SR-level dialogue will be "equally successful" as last year's, holding "special significance" during the Prime Minister's upcoming visit to China for the SCO Summit next month.
Doval pointed out that this year marks the 75th anniversary of India-China diplomatic relations, indicating it is a "time to celebrate".
"With this new energy and momentum, along with your personal contributions and the maturity and responsibility of our diplomatic teams, ambassadors, and our military forces at the borders, we have achieved this progress," added the NSA.
Earlier on Monday, the Chinese Foreign Minister held discussions with External Affairs Minister (EAM) S. Jaishankar. During this meeting, EAM Jaishankar emphasized the importance of advancing the de-escalation process, reiterating that the foundation for any momentum in India-China relations hinges on the ability to jointly uphold peace and tranquility in border regions.
